New figures from ALVA (the Association of Leading Visitor Attractions) on cultural tourism in 2021 demonstrates that visits to museums and heritage sites, whilst showing an increase on 2020, are nonetheless still not back to 2019 levels as COVID-19 continues to have an impact on the sector.
The data shows that the total number of visits to ALVA sites in 2021 was 67.8million, a 25% increase on the previous year, but represented an annual decline of 57% on the 156.6million visits made in 2019.
